Umeshi is a dance artist, educator, and movement coach. She is the founder of the Mesh Academy of Dance and is a lecturer at The University of the Arts-USA, The University of Visual and Performing Arts and The University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka. Umeshi received her B.A in Dance from Denison University, USA, and is currently reading for her Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A) in Dance at The University of the Arts, USA. Umeshi has performed and worked with multiple prominent artists such as Dada Masilo from South Africa, Olivier Tarpaga from Burkina Faso and Jesse Zaritt. Umeshi’s teaching practice focuses on empowering and expanding our ability to access and challenge our natural physical self into and out of the floor through a poly-rhythm and polycentric approach, our athleticism to move with alignment, efficiency and awareness, and our artistic voice to work with context, stories, and impulse.
